Anthropic is merging Claude’s standard chat and autonomous Cowork experience into a single interface. Users can ask a quick question or delegate a longer project without choosing a mode; Claude decides which capabilities the task requires and can continue working after the user closes their laptop.
The release also introduces Claude Docs and Claude Slides, while bringing Claude Design into conversations. Documents, presentations, and visuals can share the same conversational context, be edited collaboratively, and support scheduled recurring work. Users can require approval before actions or allow Claude to continue until closer review is needed.
The unified experience is rolling out to Pro and Max users across web, desktop, and mobile. Team and Free plans are expected to follow. Docs, Slides, and Design are in beta on paid plans, while Enterprise administrators control when those tools are enabled.
Why it matters
For builders, the important shift is the disappearance of the visible boundary between “chat” and “agent.” Routing, long-running execution, connectors, skills, approvals, and artifact creation now sit behind one adaptive interface.
That extends the control pattern Anthropic recently introduced for Claude Managed Agents: routine work can continue automatically, while sensitive or ambiguous actions still have explicit human checkpoints.
The broader product lesson is that users should describe the outcome they want while the system chooses the appropriate tools, runtime, and level of autonomy. Anthropic is also moving Claude closer to a complete workspace where AI produces and revises the documents businesses actually use—not merely text that must be transferred elsewhere.
