OpenAI’s GPT-Rosalind Signals a New Phase for AI in Drug Discovery

OpenAI has launched GPT-Rosalind, a specialized reasoning model for life sciences work across biology, genomics, protein research, and drug discovery workflows. Instead of framing it as a general chatbot, OpenAI is positioning Rosalind as a research co-pilot for evidence synthesis, hypothesis generation, and experiment planning.

The launch also includes a Life Sciences research plugin for Codex, with a broad skill layer that OpenAI says can connect to more than 50 scientific tools and data sources.
